Portrait Demo with a Difference!

Learn the basics of drawing the portrait in charcoal from life to create a convincing likeness based on observation using easy to learn principles. This demo will cover setting up the model, how to apply basic anatomic knowledge and developing the drawing utilizing light and shade to create volume and atmosphere.

Michael Tietz-Geldenhuys will cover different approaches to portraiture, including gestural and expressive drawing in order to capture the personality and character of the model as well as exploring the variety of techniques and rendering possibilities of using charcoal.

Concurrently, Inge Semple will be drawing on her understanding of anatomy of the head while working from the live model using watersoluble graphite and watercolour.

You will learn how to approach classical portrait drawing and painting from the live model from two artists who run anatomy for portraiture workshops.
