ABOUT

Charcoal cast drawing is a great exercise for learning to render realistic drawing from life. It is one of the principle teaching exercises in classical based ateliers. As a drawing project it is helpful in studying the spectrum of light and shadow and exploring a wide range of tonal value while training the eye to see form and translate that visual information on to a flat surface.

This demo will cover the basics of cast drawing from the preparation of materials to setting up the cast and how to arrange lighting, shadow box and easel for effective drawing. Rendering techniques layering softening building up tone establishing edges and line work will be demonstrated together with the basics of establishing the drawing and tips on measuring.
